Carlsbad, CA area people should read this...

I have a dear friend named Jill who, a few years ago, was diagnosed with Lyme disease.  She was bitten by a tick in her yard in Carlsbad, CA.  The local doctors refused to treat her for Lyme, saying there's no way she got it here.. it's not found in the area, and can't possibly be Lyme.  She's been very ill and having to travel to Northern CA to see a Lyme specialist and she's doing the best she can under the circumstances (she sure could use your prayers).  Not too long ago her father started showing symptoms as well, and he had been bitten by a tick in her yard.  Again, doctors are not willing to treat for Lyme saying that it's impossible.  Now, just last week she got an email from another lady in her area that has also been diagnosed with Lyme.
Now, I'm not sure how they can refuse to treat for Lyme (and the insurance company is refusing to pay for the treatments which are very expensive also saying that Lyme isn't found there) if tests prove she has it.  Is that even legal??? 
Anyway - please be careful if you're in the Carlsbad area.  Take extra precautions and be sure you check your pets and kids for ticks regularly.  Poor Jill is miserable with pain, fatigue, illness in general and I would HATE to see it happy to anyone here.

Yikes! This disease is common in the Southern Appalachians.  My ma used to sit me down every day in the summer (tick season) and go through my head with a fine toothed comb (really) and then the dogs, too.  If not treated, it can lead to serious neurological problems.   ;:"

Tell you freind to seek legal help hun.  Thats just not right that they are refusing treatment.  Lyme disease has been found in a lot of places where its not supposed to be.  It only take a family going on vacation with a dog to introduce it to the area.
