Attendences to hockey games has dropped enough already in the past few years. A lot of people wouldn't feel "safe" with the net gone, thus they wouldn't go to games, thus the attendence would drop even more. As you said, the nets are there to PROTECT the fans.

Unprotected fans = Tower ticket sales = Stadiums being shut down = No more NHL

the puck always gets lodged in the mesh net and causes delays, i dont see why they need it, they dont net off a baseball game

Personally, I could care less if they had it or not. Rarely do I go to hockey games anyways.

I bet a lot of people actually WOULD care though..
