I'm 100% sure it was Marshall U. in Huntington, WV.  I was born & raised in WV & know that happened to them.  If it happened to another team, then I don't know bout it.

Just found this....
In 1970, an airplane crash claimed the lives of 75 people (including the entire coaching staff and 37 members of the Marshall football team). They were returning, on November 14, after playing East Carolina University.

where did you find that information at? I am not saying that you are wrong please dont get me wrong, but I kow back around that time that Arkansas played a game that the other teams airplane crash killed all of their frist string players and their coach if I am not mistaken?

I found this also, however not as tragic as what you found:

Football Team Tragedy
October 2, 1970 was one of the blackest days in Shocker (Wichita State) history. One of two planes carrying players, staff and fans to a football game in Utah State, the "gold" plane crashed near Silver Plume, Colorado. Many were injured, and 31 people lost their lives.

it was on the Marshall Univ. web site...it happened nov. 14, 1970 & they are making a movie about it, due out later this year starring ian mcshane & matthew mcConaughey.  i don't remember the crash you're talking about but i'll have to look it up later.
