I once approached a neighbor regarding the noise and used gentle words, a nice tone, etc.  It only blew up in my face with expletives and shouting about how I need to mind my own business.  Meanwhile, I'm subjected to their NOISE.  At least by calling the cops, people have a modicum of anonymity.  People, these days, like to retaliate.  I don't need the drama.
