Well, this isnt a technical help question that relates to the autos, but it does relate to help, but toward my computer.  I just bought and installed a graphics card -- (9200 SE 128MB AGP) and I am wondering if I should leave the Hertz on my monitor alone, and it is currently set on 85 Hertz.... Is this too high?  I know when I have it on 60-65, the screen "flashes" if you look like right above the screen and its annoying... but at the higher hertz its more still.

I am just wondering.... The card is great, and I think everyone should have one lol.  I was running an NVIDIA 16MB one before lmao... pathetic.

Thanks

Mayhem

The higher the refresh rate (hertz), the easier it is on the eyes.

On my 19" Nokia monitor, i have mine set to 160hz

I know, but is it good on the computer?

Mayhem

as long as your graphics card / monitor supports those modes, no harm will come to your computer.

9200se should support everything + more than your monitor will handle.

ok, thanks Mayhem.  My monitor displays 60, 70, 72, 75 and 85.... I have it on 75 just to be safe.

Thanks again tho.

Homer

See mine is different. the lower the refresh rate the better my screen. I put it on 75 or 805 and I can't look at it. :(

If you set it to those refresh rates Homer, and nothing shows up, it means that your monitor doesn't support those rates.  Most CRT monitors will allow for very high refresh rates (the higher it is set the less work your eye has to do to read the monitor).  Most LCD monitors get up to around 75-80.  If your monitor doesn't support a higher speed, but you still set it to that high rate, nothing will show up on your screen.

Homer

I can see things at the higher refresh rate but the screen shakes or trembles. I find that at 60 the picture is most stable for my system. ;)

I suggest you check the maximum refresh rate on your monitor. Driving a monitor at too high a refresh rate can burn out the monitor even if it displays the picture.

I know this from experience--I burned out my sister's monitor once. I get flicker vertigo, and I cranked up her refresh rate when I was playing with my nephews. 60hz makes me nauseous. I can barely stand to look at 75hz for short periods of time. I won't use a monitor for any extended period that won't support at least 85hz. It took a few months before it burned out, but it did burn out. Luckily, I had a spare or two lying around.

Homer

I can refresh between 60-85. 60 works best for me.

I had mine set to 60 for the longest time and it worked finebut untill last nite when i started reading this topic i cranked mine all the way upto 120 an it split my screen into two sections lol. So i put it down on 72 an it works good for me.  :)

If it supports 85hz, I'd recommend using it. No harm will come to your monitor / graphics card.

You'll notice how much better your eyes feel .. especially after spending a long time at the computer.

Up to you tho ..

It's on 85 now.  Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it.

Homer

I can't use 85 the screen flickers too much. :(
