I finally had to break down and get a  new puter.  It will arrive in about a week. It has Vista (which I did not want I asked for XP) I am looking for any suggestion to make this as painless as possible.  Not just for the autos but everyday use.

Also my old puter does have XP. I have tried to figure out how to reformat the hard drive but cant find it anywhere.  Hopefully someone here knows how   Thanks

Why do you want to reformat your old PC since your getting a new one soon?
Reformatting will delete  *ALL* data on hard drive.

Also better to buy a software program that transfers data from your old to new first (there will be data on old you want to save no doubt) some programs not able to backup without a disk, email addys, possible passwords for sites, etc.

I used  Alohabob PC Relocator program to transfer when I got my new PC..I use custom settings (my choice of programs) of course your auto's will not carry over their passwords tho. that you will have to reset with BH.

As for your question this site is good for reformat info.

I already have important data on backup disc.  I have a trusted friend that is taking the old one. SO I want to erase the hard drive.  With him re formatting will be enough.

IC...I notice your not to crazy about the new Vista  OS.

You can dual bootup with XP and Vista on same PC too (pick of which OS you want at startup) if you like XP better this is way to go.As long as you have the installation disk for XP.

ICER

If you or anyone here wants to have a dual OS on same PC..this site has good info on it.

And I do suggest you read it very carefully.

Thanks Icer I will take a look. Its not that I dont like Vista. I just not like using a new microsoft product until it has been out at least a year. It takes them that long to debug and close all the security holes

ICER

YQW..they say Vista OS has great security.. best yet..but I heard that from Microsoft in past OS.
I agree with you 100% on your thinking.
