I just got a new laptop with Windows Vista.  I can run IE and Pogo fine, but not with Firefox.  It will start to load the game, any game, then just stop responding. I went to the Sun Microsystems site to see if I needed java, but when running the test using firefox, it stopped responding again.  Anyone else having problems?

My wife runs Firefox on her Vista system and has also run Pogo and has not complained of anything not working.

are you using windows classic look. If not that could be the problem. Vista aero messes with some things. Some autos view would work and others would not until I changed to calssic view

I've been playing around with it some and have narrowed some things down.  For one, if I uninstall and then reinstall, I can play on Pogo as long as I haven't closed the browser after the reinstall.  If I close the browser and then reopen to play, Pogo freezes as soon as a game starts to load.  So, I decided to try installing Mozilla rather than Firefox and that seems to be working just fine.  There must be some glitch in either the settings on my computer or Firefox itself and the way it works or installs on my computer.  I will keep playing around with it, but in the meantime I'm hoping one of you incredibly computer savvy souls will be able to help me out.

Thanks!

Hi, I wouldn't touch vista with a barge pole at the moment for various reasons.

I do know that the latest version of firefox update is having issues with java  thou(both java and firefox are aware) and on the update screen it is asking "would you like firefox to find update version of java" - click no and stay on the old java and you are less likely to have conflict errors.

Vista and pogo are also having conflict errors and its seems to be the java issue again.

A couple of friends have/are having similiar problems and we have been browsing the net for help.

Here's some of the links we found, hope they help

Thank you for the post.... I didn't want Vista either.  I do not trust "new and improved" anythings until they have been out long enough to be "old and working like a dream".  It's good to know I'm not alone in this. LOL

lol, hubby says I'm set in my ways  :o

I say let everyone else iron out the problems :)

Hope you get it sorted, a few people have said they went and bought a copy of XP and installed that, rather than use the vista that comes with new machines.

In fact if you have the XP disk for the old machine and are not using it anymore or binning it, you can use that.  You have to contact microsoft and explain the old machine is disposed of, but they will give you a code to register it on your new machine IF you decide that is what you want to do.

Add me to the list of people who think Vista is a total SNAFU. I don't want any part of it due to all of the incompatibility factors.
MS will get Vista right just when they replace it with something else that's screwy.

When they release the sp2 update, it should be a good OS

Yep, just like XP was. I'm not changing to Vista until the sp2 comes out.

Mayhem

I run Vista and have no issues whatsoever with it.

Just turn off UAC and the areo theme and your good to go  O0

I just got a new computer (other one totally crashed).  When I run Qwerty, I have to babysit it and push manually "start new game" each time.  There seems to be many, and each one different, quirks on this vista.  I tried using Foxfire Mozilla...same thing.  Tried changing to classic view, it was worse.  I tried finding the properties box on my desktop (right clicking) and something totally different comes up on vista.  I'm really frustrated...seems there's so many problems with so many of the programs.  My daughter got a vista computer a few months ago and she's still having numerous problems with many of the cheats as well.  Help, please.

Do you uninstall java totally and install MVM?  Where do you get MVM?

You need to check your settings.

In Vista most of these things can be found by right clicking your desktop and choosing the "Personalize" option from the menu. You'll have to look through the different sections to find where to change your settings

Thanks Homer...will work on it and get back to you.

Once you get the settings straight they should work. I have Vista and everyone I have tried works.

poop i got the link from a thread where homer posted it. i think it was a word search daily thread you can try googling it i dont have the direct link. i still have sun java i just have it completely disabled i could uninstall if i wanted too.

Homer, on Vista you go to control panel, then to "display settings".  On the left is a box with a large number "1".  Under that is a slider.  You slide the slider to the pixels you want.  So I did that according to your directions.  Everything on my computer got HUGE and still, it didn't work.  I go to Qwerty and I still have to babysit the cheat and manually click on "do you want to play again" and "start new game".  Oh and I tried it in classic view too.

Any other suggestions?  So many of the cheats act up in one way or another.

Homer

You should be using the recommended 1024x768 you need to be in 24 or 32 bit color and you need to turn off your smooth edges of fonts. That is all done in the personalization section.
