You techies out there.... I'd appreciate some information.  Okay..... as I was saying in another thread, my Dell Vista has issues.  The day I got it, almost a year ago, it wouldn't install all the updates because there was a corrupted file that took Dell about 4 hours on the phone to locate, delete and get things moving.  Then I had an internet issue about a month ago, got that resolved and yesterday I started getting an error message "80080005 Windows can't check for updates".  Another hour on the phone with Dell and they tell me I need to do a total reinstall again.  I hate doing this, and I'm thinking that I'll end up where I was when the computer was new and wouldn 't find updates.  Anyway..... I was wondering, what if I do a system restore, back to the last time Windows was able to do an update, which was 1 month ago.  Do you think that might help, or are the corrupted files something that won't be affected by the roll back....
Any input would be spectacular!!!

You can do the restore. It won't hurt anything.

If you are unable to restore your restore files may be corrupt and then it's back to square one

I would still save my files to disc before because you might not know how far back you are going to have to go to get a good restore. I always save my personal pile of paypal receipts simply because it is so hard to download all of them again from the paypal site as I was/am not a 150 pack person and have 22 auto receipts.

Sorry your having so many problems Stinker with your puter. I just called Hewlett Packard about mine, it is only 7 months old and my power supply fan is going out. They are going to be nice enough to send me a new one and I get to install it. They no longer pay for tech's...isn't that great? I am not afraid to do it, installed my first sound blaster card, way back.
I would say do a restore and see if you can get it done that way, if you can find a good restore point. That square one, is a total pain to do.
Good luck sweetie.

Thanks for the advice and well wishes.  I got Western Digital External Hard Drive and I'm trying to make that work, but I only get so far and it tells me there's an error.  WORSE case scenario, I get a couple Memory Keys and drag the pictures, lessons, music, etc.... put them on my desktop and start over.  There must be a real problem with some corrupted files on my poor puter.
