All that means is that this is the first time he has been caught. Who knows how long he has been getting away with stuff like that.

That's what I'm thinking, too.

The Deputy called us back tonight after they arrested the guy - who will be spending the weekend in jail - and gave us all the details.  That guy wrote a letter of apology to us, asking for our forgiveness in the matter.  I am torn up about this.  As a Christian, I know we are to forgive one another's "tresspasses".  "Let he who is without sin...."  (though I've never stolen a credit card or anything else for that matter.) On the other hand, this man broke the law and will continue breaking it as long as he can get away with it.

See, I've never had dealings this close to the law before.  I'm learning all kinds of things.  He's being charged with Identity Fraud, Theft (the card) and Burglary because in the state of California, if you enter into any establishment with the intent to commit fraud or steal, it's burglary.  So, the guy purchased (with our card) gift cards... AMEX and a restaurant card.  He took the AMEX card into 2 other stores, used them and that's burglary against those stores.  Then, he took the family to dinner using the stolen gift card... again, burglary.

AND did you know that if you're a Staples employee and you're having financial problems, you can go to your manager and explain the situation, and Staples makes loans to their employees to assist them through rough times.

So... anyone reading this who might have thoughts of trying something like this..... don't do it.  It's not worth ruining your life.... you WILL get caught.

We have ALL hit hard times at one time or another but it does not make stealing okay.  Period, End of story.
