Does anyone know if it is possible to boot a computer off of a network, rather than a hard-drive?  I am considering building a mini-itx system and I want it to boot off of my main computer's harddrive/OS.  I am thinking of getting the EPIA V 8000 motherboard, and i don't even know who to ask about whether it supports network booting.  If anyone has any info that might help, then thanks in advance.  ;D

I know it's possible... We have it set up in my work so that we can do it... It's called PXE boot (Pixie booting; spooken)... How it's set up though, I don't know as networking isn't a strong point of mine... Hopefully that can push you in the right direction, or someone else on here may have a better idea as well...

Here are a few links

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/ads/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/ADS/en-us/nbs_boot_policy_overview.asp

But I doubt your Epia V 8000 mobo has the server capabilities needed to PXE boot an OS... After looking on the net for a few minutes I think you are going to need some more sophisticated hardware at your finger-tips...  :-\

ok, well if i can't boot from a network, i can temporarily hook up a cdrom and install XP from there, then disconnect it and just map a network drive to be my hard drive.  That would work, but still, if it ever crashed or needed to be rebooted, i'd have to hook up the cdrom again.  Just a little extra pain.  Thanks for the link though, that was very helpful
