Java Switching

I  know the results are the same but ......

When I switch from Sun to MSVM (or vice versa) I do not click on internet options - advance tab - then click on the Java I want to use

What I do is click on Control Panel - Sun Java icon  - advance - then default for browsers

I guess my question is does it REALLY matter how it is done?? I have a computer repair techy telling me that the way I am doing it is correct that the java COULD get "hung up" doing it thru Internet Options, just trying to get opinions and I know everyone has their own way, but I cannot see how java could get "hung up".
