Hey everyone-

All of my cheat programs have suddenly stopped working. Every time I click on a program, I get an error message that says "Unable to Create Directory". The folder where all of the programs are located has changed to "read only". I keep unchecking the read only box but it reverts back. I ran a system restore but it didn't work. I tried downloading new cheats and encounter the same problem. I'm using Windows Vista SP1. Thanks in advance for any guidance!  !@#$ :=

I have Vista and my folder says read only and I don't have any problems with it. You may have to delete the folder and start over

I deleted the folder and tried to reinstall three different cheats and I'm still getting the "unable to create directory" message.

I know you already tried it, but this exact thing happened to me and I went and changed the main badgehelp folder from read only, and they all started working.  One other possibility to try is when you have downloaded the auto, right click on the setup file and choose Run As Admini and see if that helps.

TikiAndTorch

I tried changing the folder by unclicking the read-only box and then applying the change but it keeps reverting back to read-only. It's driving me nuts!!  girls18.gif

Try right clicking like I said, and running as admin when you try to install it, not after it's installed.  Download the file, the right click, run as admin and install that way.  Might work, might not.

arniebear

I agree on the run as admin.......I got this error with programs in Vista when I did not run as an admin, especially with older programs.

Also, make sure that your SHORTCUTS are setup to run as ADMINISTRATOR in VISTA.

Right click on them, click on Properties, check the BOX "Run This Program As An Adminstrator" and this will help. I do not remember which TAB in the PROPERTIES menu it is, but I will try to edit my post later on.

Yep, especially in Vista, the whole administrator thing is crucial to have your programs run correctly.

TikiAndTorch

Tried installing as Administrator and still receiving the same error. I've been running these programs for years and have never had this happen before.  :(

I'm so sorry then, I have no idea what to tell you... how horribly frustrating :(  Have you tried Homers registry cleaner?

TikiAndTorch

Just ran the reg cleaner. Didn't help but my computer is faster!  :)))

Thanks to everyone for their help and if you can think of anything else, please let me know!

Okay 3rd try at posting this. i had the same thing happening at the start of my pc problems. Do a system restore. Pick a date when the autos last worked.  Some change has been made that could be causing this. when I did a system restore autos worked

All good things and possible resolutions bear repeating.  Afterall, if they didn't, Homer would have taken a gun to his head long ago.  He repeats like a howitzer, thank goodness!  xoxoxox

Well I have been stuffing ammo down the barrel for the last 2 weeks. That problem was the 1st of what became a cascade of pc failures.  Right now it is back at the repair shop for the second time. They are testing the hardware one more time just to be sure. if it checks out they will do a factory restore and hopefully clear out whatever is corrupting my OS which is Vista. If this fails to fix it. I will fill a washtub with beer and ice and yall can all come to the pc bashing and bonfire.

I hope it doesn't come to that and that this latest repair shop visit will fix all your woes.  If it doesn't - and I know what that frustration feels like - I will provide the kerosene and the matches.  I'll bring some noshes, too!

Sorry Harley for your PC woes.........I have been there and know the frustration.  I got everything wiped out on my PC.......including years of borrowed music.  Thank goodness I had it backed up on an external.

restore your computer to an earilier date that was before you had this problem.  if necessary you may have to reformat if you can not figure out what you did to cause the problem.. i recently had to reformat my laptop, it stopped playing all games.  i had messed with the registery doing some vista tweaks... only thing i had to do was either reformat or not play... but my laptop is for play only.  my college, bills, life is on my other laptop.  also when i reformated it ran so much faster and had 6 months of free virus again...
