Windows update installed critical updates that created havoc with my laptop. I did a system restore to undo the updates shut down windows update and everything is fine. If you start having issues check to see if a critical update was completed. It could be the problem

Are you running 32 or 64bit Windows 7?

I'm using 64bit and have installed the updates without issues.
Nothing spoils a good story like the arrival of an eyewitness.

64 bit. Mayhem it totally screwed up this computer.  Once I removed it everything worked fine.  It is the second time a update has messed with the system. First time was minor this one was not

I have been unsuccessfully trying to do update Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932) for almost a year. I have downloaded and run the alleged hotfix by Windows for x64 but I still continue to "fail" when trying to download this update since 2/27/11 (heading towards 1 yr). I have plenty of room and have thought about just hiding it. I have also seen lots of pages online discussing the problem with this update but none seem to work for me. If this update would resolve my issues with autos like Operation I would love to find a true fix for this.

Once again, was that critical update that important? Yes, I know I'm still running vista on 32 bit, I just like it. I know for fact that over the past few years, I've had to hide, ignore, at least 2 "critical updates" that also have messed up my computer. It's not the windows update that will make a BH program work, it's the BH programmers. Good luck.

If you think it an update screwing up your computer, you should only update one at a time to find the issue.

Don't let Windows automatically download and install

I have mine set to check, but notify me first.

If an update fails, there is usually a software issue or something that keeps it from failing.  Its not always easy to find the solution and fix, but they are out there.
