For those that have Java issues on Pogo

I may have found the solution, at least for me. it's worth a shot mentioning it if anyone else has issues.

When I'd click on embedded games I'd often get the notification to download the latest version of Java, even though I already had it installed. I was checking on some other things with Firefox and noticed it said my Java was out of date, even though I had just updated it. I found that odd.

If you have this issue often, go into your Control Panel for your computer (this will vary depending on operating system, so I'm going to assume you know how to navigate to the control panel).

Once in there, go to "Add/Remove Programs".

Once the list populates, search for a program called JavaFX 2.1.1 (the number may be different, but anything with JavaFX is what you are looking for)

Click on it, and click the button to remove it. The only reason you'd need it is if you run external Java applications, or do Java coding (there may be other uses, but these are the main ones). If you don't know what either of those are, then you probably don't need it. If you DO need it, you can just reinstall it from the Java site.

Once it's removed, restart your browser and give pogo a try. I didn't get the Java pop-up on Pogo after doing this. Hopefully it continues to work. You may need to look for the JavaFX file after each time you update Java, as it may reinstall with an update.

The reason we get the pop-ups on Pogo is because Java isn't sure which to use, the regular install of Java or JavaFX, so it gets confused and assumes your java is out of date because the FX file is older. At least that's my understanding of it.

Anyway, if you do this and it works out, please post about it. I'm hoping this is the solution.

Apparently there was a Java update and now I can't load the embedded games. It keeps asking me to download the latest version, which I have, but it doesn't work. I've tried on Chrome, Mozilla and SeaMonkey. I keep going through the steps and it says it's installed, but even if I reboot the browser and the computer, it still doesn't work. I've tried on 2 computers and I get the same message. I've checked and it's enabled, so I'm not sure what to do.

Any ideas, anyone?

On Mac I haven't had an issue with Firefox but on PC it still won't work. I've been using Internet Explorer when I'm on the PC and it works fine. On both OS systems I almost always use the UK Pogo site because it's fast and easy without all the embedded games.  I would suggest uninstalling all existing versions of java on your PC and then reinstalling the latest version which I think is still the 7.11, and using the UK Pogo site at uk.pogo.com for now on either chrome or IE.  If you're on Mac just double check your security update settings and in Firefox go to your add-ons and check if they're all up to date as well and make the necessary updates if any.  I hope it works for you otherwise I don't know. It seems so random at times even when there are no security threats. You can also try to clear your browser and java cache.

This is gonna sound weird buy it is me. Sometimes Java has a problem installing in Chrome.  I found if I do not install while in Chrome but save the file ( I use the download file) Then close Chrome  then install from the saved file . Does not happen all the time but has happened.

Chrome includes java with it's browser so it is updated by auto i think....It all seems Greek to me most of the time anyway..

With Firefox:
(with java 7u11 enabled in add-on) Most of the time a window would pop up saying that the version is unsupported and want me to update it.  If I close the browser and start it again, a small window would pop up saying java is not active and asks if I want to activate it.  The last time, I chose to 'always activate for this site' (pogo).  From then on, I would get a pop up telling me what site wants to run.  So far it's been pogo.com or games3.pogo.com, to which I select 'Run'.  As long as you don't change game, you should be good.

With Chrome:
(java 7u11 enabled) I get the pop up saying whatever site wants to run.  I choose 'Run' for pogo.com and games3.pogo.com.  A side note, I notice with Chrome, the play area is larger but not the viewing size.  The chat/player list is shifted over too.  This was first noticed while playing Sudoku Blast.  The pieces would be under the chat/player list so you have to click 'Hint' to finish the game.  In World Class Solitaire, half of the right column would be under the chat/player list.

IE8:
Have not used since there is a vulnerability (nothing new there) not associated with Java.   IE9 and IE10 is ok, but can't run on XP.

yes gran it is in chrome but 2 times i have it not download and install java updates related to pogo.  I thought it was odd when it happened but it was 2 different computers.  And has not happened since but I find it odd Pogo has a Java update request that it appears Chrome did not get on its own. Now one other thing cause I got caught in this one was I had disabled Java when the security issue came up and forgot to enable it.

Well I am not smart at all on computers and this Java thing is driving me crazy it worked perfect last night but again today I can't play hardly anything.So I don't no it seems I spend most of my time on pogo trying to play a game instead of actually playing a game.Bout tired of it.Appreciate all the posts on the subject but I guess I'm not doing something right.( my fault though)

Firefox automatically disables Java because of the security holes in it (that Sun/Oracle hasn't fixed yet). You can play flash based games in Firefox without having Java installed at all. But Java based games won't work. Until they release Java 7 update 12, you probably won't be able to use FF for the most part.

I can't speak about Chrome.

I have been using Internet Explorer for the last week or so because it's a terrible browser and doesn't disable Java automatically. So as long as you stay with just pogo, you shouldn't have an issue playing all the games.

I switched back to version 6   update  38.  I play all my pogo games on FF with no problem.

I switched back to 6.38 too, and it still didn't work for me. I would tell it to activate/allow java, and it wouldn't do anything. Glad to hear it works for someone.

I am not having Java problems (crossing fingers, knocking wood) but I'm happy to help anyone with Pogo stuff, if needed.


edited to say:  I encountered my first Java problem, installed 6-38 version and all is right with my world.

I'm assuming that if one has aggressive security settings throughout their OS that it'll likely interfere with Java on occasion but especially now with the high risk security issues, at least that's the conclusion I've come to after all the problems I've had in the past with Java/Pogo.  Even enabling Java in FF in settings and in realtime on the Pogo site as well as reducing the high security settings in the Java console to medium won't allow it to run on the browser at the moment. I will sometimes override my overall security settings when I need to visit certain sites but since IE is working fine for now and FF on Mac isn't giving me any problems either it seems pointless to do any extra work just to get Firefox+Pogo to work on PC. At least we know IE will likely work with the current Java update for most people who are on PC. You should be fine if you're on Mac. 

If Pogo is going to insist on still using Java then I'd rather the developers work on fixing all the glitches and security failings even if it takes a little longer than to have to constantly uninstall and then reinstall a newer supposedly better update every couple of days.  Of course Pogo could just do us all a favor and simply abandon Java altogether, you know, like the rest of the world.

Not sure I trust 7-13.  My 6-38 is just fine for now.
