The short version, some Lenovo computers were shipped with preinstalled software called "Superfish" that is found to be...well....bad. I know a few of you have Lenovo products, so just posting this as a PSA.

To find out if you have it on your PC, you can use the website here: https://filippo.io/Badfish/

instructions are self explanatory.

If you do have the software, removal instructions are here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Removal-Instructions-for-VisualDiscovery-Superfish-application/ta-p/2029206

If you want to read the details, there's a good article about it on ArsTechnica here: http://arstechnica.com/security/2015/02/lenovo-pcs-ship-with-man-in-the-middle-adware-that-breaks-https-connections/

That sucks!  Glad I don't have Lenovo.  Now, I never will.  Thanks for the heads-up, Snap!   tumbsup.gif

Not on mine either, but I don't have a Lenovo. Thanks for the info, Snap.  tumbsup.gif

Thanks DL...good news. Hopefully this makes companies really think twice about pre-loaded software, especially "free trials" and not looking into the programs/companies first. First thing I do on a new computer is remove every program I don't need, want, use, or is only a "trial". I know a lot of techs that just completely format the hard drive, only installing the operating system.

Ohh Snappy I have a question for you and whoever has an answer.

My Lenovo was working perfectly well this morning and then I rebooted the computer.

Now my mouse wont work or so I think.

Usually I can hit anything on the keyboard to get to the sign-in page but even that isn't working.

What do you suggest I do?

huh.gif Whew, thanks for sharing the links ... it showed A-OK on my Dell without any other listed no-no's.

lipsrsealed.gif (I have enough trouble stumbling my way around the usual glitches).

Sue

Update... Still need help but...

I went and bought a new mouse but didn't open it yet.

We switched mouses from other computer and it still didn't work.

My son then plugged it into the front of my computer and now it works.

So is the area in the back where the plug goes fried?

Sue, it's 'possible' that the USB (I assume it's a USB mouse) port is bad. Do you have a wireless mouse? I've never actually had a USB port go bad, so can't really speak to if that actually happens or how often or anything.

Sue

Nope it is not wireless.

After the kids go to bed, I will do a google search to see what I can find out. Thanks, Sue
