Mayhem

Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy were found dead at home on Wednesday, along with one of their dogs, also dead, after a neighbor raised concerns.

Law enforcement found no signs of foul play, although Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza says his deputies haven't ruled anything out and are still investigating.

Their family believes carbon monoxide poisoning is to blame.

I saw this earlier, and that is what I wondered if it is Carbon Monoxide. Very sad. I always enjoyed Gene Hackman movies.

Squid

That was my very thought, Smoky.  When I heard they were both gone and in separate areas of the house and then I heard the dog was dead, too, I went right to carbon monoxide.  RIP all.

Mayhem

That has always been a concern of mine. I have 3 carbon monoxide detectors in my house .. I hope it's enough.

I thought that might be the case as well.

I have new ones throughout my house.  I was talking to a fireman who said most of the ones on the market don't even go off until they hit 35, and 50 is toxic.

It's scary as all get out.

RIP Gene, condolances to all who knew him.

The latest report:  NO CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.

Still investigating...

Mayhem

More on this ... "Hackman's pacemaker shows its last event on February 17 - indicating that's when it stopped and when he died". So they've been dead for a week and a half before being discovered.

They said it still may have been CO poisoning.  CO clears from bodies within 24 hours or so.

Oh, that could be it. I'm curious if the autopsy will contain any surprises.

An awful thing gets more awful.
Yes, it does.  I remember the Hanta virus outbreak of the early nineties.  The big rise in cases is, evidently, closely connected to rainfall levels which increase rodent populations, etc.

Mayhem

Due to their health and ages, why was no one checking on them more often?

They led very private lives, sometimes not leaving their home for weeks.  I don't know about children.  He was married before this wife...

Mayhem

I wouldn't want to live like that. Sure, they had each other but still ...

The news stated that she was dead a week before him.  He had very advanced alzheimer's and probably wasn't aware she was dead.  He ambled about for a week, probably going without food.  Such a sad end for both of them.  I don't mean to sound glib but check on those you care about!  heart5.gif

Not glib at all.

His wife was much younger, but still - advanced alzheimer's, get in a care worker or something if you are unwilling to personally pay attention.  This is such a tragedy on so many levels.
