Does anyone know how the rank points are tallied in this game? do you have to win the game to get them?

Yes, you have to win.  You do best on the hardest level.  Love the auto!

One more question- Does it matter how many blocks you clear or anything or do you get the same rank points each time

Yes, the game progression depends on how well you play and win.
